Coming in May: Duct Tape: The Musical

Jim and I are hooking up with our musical buddies Ben and Dan (of Ben There, Dan That) and crafting a 90-minute stage show that combines music with our "breathtakingly stupid" duct tape comedy act. The results will premiere in our home town of Sturgeon Bay, WI on May 15th at the Third Avenue Playhouse.

If you are anywhere in the midwest - it might be worth your time to make the trip for this Off, Off, Off Broadway premiere. We have 250 rolls of duct tape compliments of Duck brand to give away to the first 250 people through the door. AND we'll be giving away a complete set of our SEVEN BOOK Duct Tape Library to the best Duct Tape Apparel to show up at the event.

For lodging in Sturgeon Bay, we suggest the Holiday Motel - a really cool retro (but totally redone) 1950s motel. Click to HolidayMusicMotel.com for reservation information.

We're on Facebook

We're just as much into the "social networking" thing as the next guy - and would rather you get on our email list where you get notices of special sales, duct tape product news, our newsletter, etc. But, if you are totally into facebook, we'll meet you there, too. Just click on the link on the left and we'll "friend" the heck outta ya!

See Tim Paint.
Paint, Tim, paint.

Besides spending his time hangin' around with Jim evangelizing the "Gospel of Duct Tape," Tim also has the habit (hobby) of painting. Painting a lot - some one hundred plus painting per year... One thing he likes to do is paint to live music - usually jazz. Here is a link to a video of one such paint to music event at Lawrence University's Music Conservatory in Appleton, WI. This video covers 17 minutes (condensed to six), two songs and two paintings - the first of which was morphed into the second, final painting.

If you know of an arts/music organization that might like to host a paint to music event in your town, please pass along this video link to them. More of Tim's art can be seen at g42art.com.

Are you ready to win a college scholarship?
Bring out the Duck Tape and make yourself a prom outfit!

Contest started March 1st!
New, expanded prizes on this, the 10th Anniversary of the Contest!

The perfect prom night requires a few essentials: the venue, the music, the friends and the hair. While these may change, there is one key item to bring to prom that has remained the same from year to year: style. Students seek the outfit that will “stick” out and leave a memorable impression on their peers – and, for the past decade, one familiar fix-all has helped many do just that: duct tape.

Ten years ago, Duck Tape® brand duct tape launched the Stuck at Prom® Scholarship Contest, which challenges high school students from the United States and Canada to create and accessorize prom outfits that are unique, beautiful and made out of duct tape. It is a prime opportunity for high school students to make a lasting impression at their proms and possibly earn some much-needed scholarship money for college. Since its inception in 2001, more than 5,500 students have participated in the contest and more than $80,000 has been awarded in scholarship money.

In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Stuck at Prom Contest, the top 10 couples chosen will each receive scholarship money: first place will receive $3,000 each and $3,000 for the school that hosted their prom, second place will receive $2,000 each and $2,000 for their school, third place will receive $1,000 each and $1,000 for their school, and the remaining seven finalist couples will receive $500 each and $500 for their school.

The 10 finalist couples will be chosen from all contest entries by a panel of judges based on workmanship, originality, use of color, accessories and quantity of duct tape used to create their prom attire.  These couples will then compete during a period of online public voting to earn the top scholarship prize.  However, staying in the race could prove a bit tricky. In a new voting format, the top 10 couples will be “voted off” based on lowest number of overall online votes.Students interested in participating can go to www.stuckatprom.com for official contest rules, important contest dates and a registration form. The contest, sponsored by ShurTech Brands, LLC, marketers of Duck Tape brand duct tape, starts on March 1, 2010.

The Duct Tape Store has moved...
We moved our Duct Tape Pro Shop to Octane Street. In an effort to update our stores and get them to a place where more people can find them, we moved them to Octane Street. Here you can still purchase our books (in the bookstore) and Duct Tape apparel (in the Humor Apparel Store). There's also a storefront for the Duct Tape Guys. Check it out and click around Octane Street - you just might discover some other humorous creations from Tim and company while you are there.

I am always uncomfortable going to Parent - Teacher conferences. I never quite know how much to tip.

I am thinking of buying an under the cupboard coffee maker. I will probably buy it over the counter but pay for it under the table.

I had children late in life and, when I go out in public with them, people are always thinking that I am the grandfather. I got sick of this so I had a t shirt made that says "I am not the Grandpa". The only trouble is that no one can see it behind my long white beard.

One thing about having a long beard is that women, who are complete strangers, are always coming up and talking to me. Just today, three women came up to me and said, "Hey, what are you doing? This is the ladies' room!"

Today a person walked across my lawn and tracked mud onto my porch to stick a flyer in my door advertising a maid service.

How come every time you see an ad for a motorhome it is parked alone next to an ocean or a mountain stream yet, when you see them in real life, they are always parked in the parking lot of a Wal Mart?

I always try to live my dreams; well, except for the one where I am at a job interview naked.

Sometimes I buy things online just so I can track them during shipment.

It's not easy keeping things clean when you have kids. I do try though. For example, when I come into the house, I always take off my shoes - to keep them clean.

I always enjoy reading quotations. Here is a site that has a pretty good list. This is guaranteed to kill an hour or two. These also come in handy if you can't think of a status to put on facebook. www.quotationspage.com

Meet us at The Duct Tape Diner. We’ve had some great stories over the counter at the Duct Tape Diner recently. If you haven’t yet read the Diner contributions, stop by! This is where we invite our visitors to share their own duct tape stories. Just like these people did:

Duct Tape Dental Work "I used duct tape for over two years on a tooth in my partial dental plate. Don't worry, I changed the tape every couple of weeks, and went with the white tape, instead of other colors, so it would not show as much." - Charlie C.

"This Old Cheesehead" video from two Duct Tape/Packers fans

My friend Gump and I just made a new video called This Old Cheesehead, demonstrating how Packers fans can transform their ratty old #4 Favre jersey into a stylish Spencer Havner #41 using Duck brand white duct tape…and a few beers, of course.  You can watch the video on YouTube. We’d be mighty honored if you shared it with your fans.- Stell

Nice job guys - Executed in true Duct Tape Guy fashion.
Two glarring errors: You never cut duct tape with a scissors.
And, not using green duct tape instead of green electrical tape...
Other than that - well done! - Jim and Tim

Restaurant Anecdotes - Or, Adventures in Stupidity (true stories):

A customer who drinks hot tea as opposed to coffee visited a fast food restaurant and I asked a waitress if they had any hot tea.

Customer: "Do you have hot tea?"
Waitress: "Well, it is not very warm, but...."
Customer: "No, I mean do you have hot water and a tea bag?"
Waitress: "Yes."
Customer: "So you can make me hot tea."
Waitress: "Well I can put a cup of iced tea in the microwave for you."
Customer: "No, just give me a cup of hot water and a tea bag, and I will make my own."
Waitress: "Do you want ice in the cup?"

A customer went to McDonald's and saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken McNuggets - then asked for a half dozen nuggets. This is their recollection of the dialogue that ensued:

"We don't have half dozen nuggets," said the teenager at the counter.
"You don't?" I replied.
"We only have six, nine, or twelve," was the reply.
"So I can't order a half dozen nuggets, but I can order six?"
"That's right."
So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets.
