The Duct Tape Way to Customize a Bike
(left) Nick from Salt Lake City, Utah got together with his brother, Jimmy, and converted a pink bike that a friend had given them into this fine duct tape fashion statement. Nice Goin guys! Ill bet your wished that he had a roll of duct tape on hand.
The Trash on the Bus is All Stuck Up
On a long, long, LONG bus ride to D.C with school, my friends and I had a ton of garbage, such as wrappers, and for me, scraps of duck tape (I made two bags on the bus). The garbage bag came down the isle very rarely. So I stuck a piece of duck tape to the ceiling, so it hung down, with a sticky side showing. Then we stuck all of our garbage to it. Sure, no one wanted to come near us, but it was still very effective! --- Rachel
The Duct Tape Organist
I am a church organist and have the opportunity to play for weddings in my area. Last week I played for a wedding in a church that was not my own. This church has a very nice, but very old pipe organ. As I was warming up before the wedding, a most terrible thing happened. The A flat on the pedal board broke off! Only twenty minutes until the wedding started. What was I to do?
I quickly ran to the trunk of my car and got my roll of ever present emergency duct tape. I taped the pedal back into place. It worked fine. The wedding went on without a hitch. From now on I'm going to carry a "flat pack" of D.T. in my music folder. --- Mark H.
Duct Tape Helps the Mail Get Through
The winters in Northern Wisconsin can be tough, and the snowplows can be very brutal on mail boxes. However, neither rain, snow, sleet or hail will prevent the mail from getting through, provided you have at least one roll of duct tape on hand! --- Jeff G.
Repair a Chest Wound
(no photo, sorry... no were not) Let me tell you how to TEMPORARILY treat a sucking chest wound (gunshot for example) with duct tape. It's VERY IMPORTANT TO CALL 911 IN THIS SITUATION! Make sure the scene is safe!!! Work quickly, as time is of the essence.
1) Find your ever-ready duct tape and a square of celophane large enough to cover the entire wound(the kind from a chip bag works best)
2) Put the cellophane over the wound and closely tape down all but one corner. This is called a "Flutter valve".
3)treat for shock, any other injuries, watch your back.
4)transport them immediatly to a hospital.Might want to call the cops too.
This really works and can be found in EMT and First Responder textbooks. --- A. F., Fire Explorer(cadet)in California
Duct Tape and Newspaper makes Seamstress Patterns Easy
I am a clothes design, not famous or anything like that. I use duct tape on special orders for fitted clothes, by wrapping newspaper around the area of person then wrapping as tight as possible with the duct tape. Cut is open on the side, and there is my pattern. -- Love Mari
Medieval Reinactments
As one who does both Ren Faires, and Medieval reinactments, some of my favorite uses are as follows: Duct tape is a requirement to play Amtgard it is a major part of weapon construction. You take pvc some foam and wrap the heck out of it with Duct tape, put a sock over it and start fighting. --- MIM Shroom (Green Dragons)
Tick Collar on a Roll
When my Rottweiler was nursing her puppies in a wooden box in my living room, I discovered she had ticks. Since she was nursing, I couldn't use a tick dip to get rid of them. So...since ticks normally feed and then crawl off somewhere else, I lined the whole top of the box with Duct Tape, sticky side in. When the ticks tried to crawl out of the box, they got stuck and died. I was amazed (and horrified) at how many were stuck on the tape. --- Marcia L., Tucson, AZ
Prankin the Gals with Duct Tape
I am writing to you on behalf of the Men's Swimming and Diving Team at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater Massachusetts. We are currently involved in a fundraising effort along with the Women's Volleyball team in which we are playing a basketball game to raise money. Out of this game came a small friendly prank war. One night, my co-captain and I went out and bought 4 rolls of duct tape we went over to the dorm that a group of the girls live in and made a "Duct Tape Wall" over one of the doors in the lounge. When we saw all of the lights go out in the girls room. We quickly but carefully moved the wall up 4 stories to their room, taped it to their door frame, and left. We figured that they would open the door see the wall and just get confused and frustrated. Well the next day, we found out that it worked better than we possibley could have imagined. One of the girls got up to shower in the morning, didn't have her contacts in and walked right in to the wall and got stuck to it. Because of this prank, we are far and away winning the prank war. It's all thanks to Duct Tape! --- Justin B., Captain, BSC Men's Swimming and Diving
Talk about a Computer Upgrade!
Bonez Skelington of BC Canada used his roll of duct tape that he got for Christmas to customize his computer into what we feel is the most attractive computer upgrade since the original Macintosh entered the market in 1984. Even the keyboard is entirely covered in duct tape! What a great way to learn touch typing!
Thats using the old noodle!
One day I was eating one of those cup-o-noodles. You know, the kind that comes in the styrofoam cup. Just add hot water and stir. Well, I added the water and I was stirring it with my fork, when one of the prongs of the fork punctured through the styrofoam cup. I plugged the hole with my thumb until I could get my duct tape. I just cut off a piece and taped it over the hole. Good as new. --- Kahlon, California
Filler Up
I own a Suburban with a 40 gal gas tank. When I fill it up I use an almost empty roll of duct tape (squished into an oval) to hold the pump handle on. This way I can sit in the truck and eat lunch or read "War and Peace " while I fill up . I only wish I could pay with duct tape when I'm done. --- Louanne G., Westborough, Mass.
Winning the Election with Duct Tape
My nickname at school is the "Duct Tape Lady" because when I ran for student council, my entire campaign was based around duct tape. It was the primary ingredient in all of my posters and then for my election skit I wore duct tape shoes and shorts while singing a song about my love for duct tape. Needless to say, I won the election and have since been able to improve my school through the use of duct tape. I have found that mentioning duct tape is a wonderful way to start a conversation and build lasting relationships. I now choose my friends according to their knowledge of duct tape. In fact, as Valentines' this year, one of my best friends gave out pieces of duct tape with hearts drawn on them. After such a romantic gesture, his love life really picked up. Women, like myself, really like a man who knows his duct tape. Thank you for all that you have done to raise duct tape awarness. You guys really are an example to us all! --- Super_Gladys
Extended Reach Cleaning
My husband was trying to figure out the easiest way to clean the aluminum frame on our screened porch which has a domed ceiling. After much thought he duct taped a toilet brush to a broom handle. The new "tool" worked perfectly and got into all the little nooks and crannies. And of course we are proud to say the the duct tape held up through soap, water and even bleach! --- Sue H., Coconut Creek, FL
First Aid
I got a pretty deep and long cut the other day across my chest the other day. I used about five bandaids the first day to try and keep the infection out, but when I went to replace the bandage the next day, I was out of bandaids. Thinking fast, I grabbed an old undershirt, cut it into a strip as long as the wound which I then placed on a slightly larger piece of Duct Tape. After dabbing some hydrogen peroxide on the cloth, I then stuck the bandage onto the wound. Its cheaper and more effective at stopping infection than a number of individual bandaids. --- Lord Alexander the Pretty Good
On the contrary - duct tape is often used for first aid applications (even by doctors).
Driving Miss Duct Tape
When a small retaining clip broke on my friends battered but well loved 1984 Ford Tempo, we couldn't find the clip by itself. You could only buy it as a whole two piece axle assembly for wads of $$$. None of us had the money to fix it. So out came the duct tape. (which we should have done before even looking for the part) We slid the two halves of the axles back into the balancer, cleaned them and then started duct taping like mad. After a while our arms were getting mad so one of us got the idea to jack the car up and put it in gear so that the axle would turn and wind the duct tape on much faster. To make a long story short, He drove it that way for a month before getting scared and buying a new axle. (Some people never learn do they?) --- Bryan D.
Dont Throw Away Your Favorite Mug
Hi Guys, This is my favorite to go mug in the whole world. I got it in Hawaii. The inner liner separated from the outside. I used good ole Duct Tape to fix it.. Yeah, it is all better. --- Anna
Censor on a Roll
If you don't like an idea on the duct tape calendar, simply duct tape over it. --- Emily D.
Good idea, Emily! We hope that you dont need to use this hint too often!
Hold that Camper Together
We invested in a used camper and started out on our first camping trip to the woods. Going down the freeway at 65 miles a hour, the whole bottom seam of the cab-over part of the camper snapped loose. We stopped at the next rest area and duct taped the sucker up real good. It held the whole weekend through the infamous Oregon spring rains. Without our duct tape, we would have had to return home and disappointed our grandson. I never leave home without my duct tape. --- Phyllis Cline
